In Memory of Our Fallen Heroes The Hereford Volunteer Fire Comapny has lost 4 of our members to Line of Duty accidents over the years. Line of Duty Death 
Elwood Hicks died on April 5, 1933 while responding to a house fire in Shawsville. The Fire Engine he was riding overturned on Wiseburg Road in Whitehall. The 1928 American LaFrance Fire Engine hit a mud slide across the road after a hard storm. He was sitting on the hose bed and was pinned under the fire engine. Mr. Hicks died at the scene from his injuries. Mr. Hicks was 31 years old at the time of his death. Hicks Newspaper Clip Clarence Almony died April 6, 1933 of injuries he sustained on April 5 when the 1928 American LaFrance Fire Engine overturned on Wisesburg Road.

S. Howard Miller died on April 13, 1940 after suffering a heart attack and fell from the Officers seat of the 1926 Dodge Fire Engine he was riding. 
Robert E. Thomas died on May 14, 1965 while fighting a woods fire on Bernoudy Road in Whitehall. Bob was driving the 1954 Willys Jeep which overturned when it hit a fallen tree that was covered with leaves. Died While on Company Business John Almony died on November 5, 1933 in a auto accident while on company business in Baltimore City. Percy G. Nalyor was in the car with him, they were checking on the repair work on the 1928 American LaFrance after the accident on April 5, 1933. Almony Newspaper Clip 
Percy G. Naylor died on June 24, 1965 at the Convention Center in Ocean City while attending the Sate Fireman’s Convention.
