Passing of Past Chief Louis “Fred” Stiffler Jr.

The Officers and Members of the Hereford Volunteer Company are saddened to announce the passing of Past Chief  on September 27, 2023.

Fred was an asset to the Hereford Volunteer Fire Company since he joined on September 1, 1970, and has served in many positions over the years. In 1995 Fred became a life member of the fire company. During his 53 years of service to Hereford Volunteer Fire Company Fred held the following positions:

Chief:  1984 – 1987, 1989, 1991 – 1994

Assistant Chief: 1981 – 1983, 1997

Captain – 1978 & 1980

First Lieutenant: 1976-77, 2007, 2011

Second Lieutenant: 1974 & 2006

Engineer: 1988 & 1996

Board of Directors:  1980-83, 1988, 1995-97, 2001-03, 2007-09, and 2015 to 2020

In addition to his leadership roles at the fire station, Fred has chaired suppers to raise funds, worked on many other fundraisers, and served on other committees within the fire company, such as apparatus replacement committees.

In addition to serving the Hereford community Fred joined the Baltimore County Fire Department on June 9, 1979. After 31 years of service Fred retired on June 10, 2010, as a fire lieutenant at Station 15, Eastview.

Rest in peace Brother. We will take it from here.

ARRANGEMENTS:

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, October 13, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2nd Street, New Freedom, PA 17349. There will be a second visitation from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Hereford Volunteer Fire Company, 510 Monkton Road, Monkton, MD 21111 with a Celebration of Life beginning at 12 p.m. Interment is private and at the convenience of his family.
